I have read 2 romances recently where one character had emotional or physical discomfort during/just before sex and the other character stopped and comforted them, and I love seeing this in books! It feels weird to be enthusiastic about uncomfortable moments in sex scenes but
it's such great character development. And it's also so refreshing!
And I wrote my first tweet using "they," but both romances in question were cis men comforting cis women, which I think is important, especially because romance has soooooo many years and years "of course the first time hurts, just deal with it" sex scenes
The books in question are Diana Biller's THE WIDOW OF ROSE HOUSE and Alisha Rai's GIRL GONE VIRAL, in case you came to this thread looking for recs. They are both excellent!
