I'm tired of writing strongly-worded letters. Legislators should be legislating. Florida is in the biggest public health crisis of our time, but our 160 state senators and reps haven’t debated or voted on a single proposal to help our state thru #COVID19. 1/
4,677 Floridians have died from COVID since the 2020 session ended 3/19 and Republicans have refused to return us to Tallahassee. They’ve instead surrendered all power to @GovRonDeSantis who has had absolute control over our COVID response during the declared state of emergency.
FL’s population of 22 million people is larger than many countries. You'd think more than one person should have been elected to decide how state government will respond to a pandemic. You’d think wrong! @GovRonDeSantis decides everything right now for better or for worse.
As a legislator, I want to return to Tallahassee to deal with this crisis. We can fix our unemployment system, support small business, expand Medicaid, enact earned sick leave or workplace safety standards, housing assistance programs or approve more school funds. But we can't.
The GOP majority rejected our efforts to have a special session to deal with any of it and they won’t reconvene the Florida House or Senate until after the November election.
Until then, state lawmakers have to beg and plead with @GovRonDeSantis to lead while we do everything we can to help our constituents and keep each other safe. I hope the Governor is successful and I wish him well. Our lives are depending on it. 🙏😷
