ok. here goes.

vergil didnt used to be my fave brother it was dante for years until dmc5 and hearing about what happened to vergil after eva died. eva gave dante the advice to run and not to use his real name. dante got to see eva one last time. vergil didnt. (1/?)

so vergils childhood was spent thinking his whole family was dead, dante included. he was alone, and he didnt try to hide because he didnt know he needed to. so he was ABSOLUTELY hunted by mundus and his goons way easier and way more often than dante was (2/?)

and not to mention the helplessness he felt from losing everyone he loved at a young age and being powerless to stop it. so he spends his LIFE getting as powerful as he can so hes never that helpless again. and yea hes a brat in dmc3. bigtime. made me so mad at him (3/?)

he had the chance to reconnect with his long lost brother, but by that time hes too far gone. spent too long on his own with ONE goal in mind, to kill mundus and take revenge for his parents. and not even his brothers gonna get in his way. but he DOES. and dante BEATS him (4/?)

he spends his LIFE up to this point getting as strong as he can. at this point he thinks hes almost reached his goal of never being a powerless victim ever again. and then dante BEATS him. and not just once. and you KNOW its reopening those wounds of NOT GOOD ENOUGH (5/?)

but vergil did stab dante first. with rebellion. in dmc3. he KNEW what that would do, knew it would unlock his brothers DT to make sure HE was as powerful as he could as well. make sure dante could take care of himself too. but then.....their final fight in dmc3 (6/?)

you see them lunge at each other and dante uses rebellion and slices vergil in HALF. of course, hes strong enough to heal before the sword even reaches his other side. but if you notice, vergil doesnt slice dante with yamato. he misses. on purpose. (7/?)

and let me say, hes NOT perfect. hes fucked up. but vergil saw this as a way to test dante, to see if they could reconcile. maybe hed give up his mundus quest. but dante stabs him. and vergils like "ah. i see. he really does want me dead..ok then." (8/?)

and thats when he falls to hell. dante, who IS a good guy, tries to save him, and vergil rejects his hand. he knows now hes going to go to hell to kill mundus himself, because he has also severed the one connection with his brother he might have had. and its...sad (9/?)

so idk i just think hes got no clue how a family should work but hes desperately trying to find one but fucking up along the way because hes traumatized. and V confirms this in dmc5 with the "i just wanted to be cared for. and loved." line. that was what did it for me (10/?)

hes a super sympathetic character, in his own way. hes had a way rougher life than his twin brother and everything he's done has been to protect himself the only way he knows how, even if its wrong and twisted by his own pride. it breaks my heart and i love him. fin. (11/11)
