All the spots where it’s preaching the transcendence of the Church’s religious aims above all political aims, it’s really preaching the supremacy of the spiritual over the temporal, thus the subordination of the latter to the former.
All the spots where it’s preaching the Church’s comfort with a highly pluralistic multitude of governance models, it’s really preaching what Schmitt calls “limitless opportunism” — which in fact follows from the point about the transcendence and universality of the spiritual.
And of course, who can ignore the spots where it preaches the authority of the state over the “total well being” of men.
