Listen up y& #39;all! From now on I will only go by and answer to BRISEIDA. No more Bri, or any other nicknames I have allowed you to call me because my name is too "difficult" for you. #itstimeyousaymyname
I grew up hating my name because it was difficult for people to say, some people have even told me it& #39;s spelled wrong. Let me just say I& #39;ve always liked my name, I only disliked it because people found it different.
When I was in elementary I would ask my mom why she had to give me such a different name. Finally when I got to high school I was able to appreciate and own it, but then I stepped into adulthood and people began to ask if I had a nickname.
I& #39;d just like to point out that only here in the U.S. people have difficulty with my name. Growing up I spent a lot of time in Mexico, and not once did someone say anything about my name.
For many years now, I& #39;ve allowed people to choose what they want to call me. I feel so dumb for allowing that to happen, but that would of never been the case if everyone was more accepting. If people wouldn& #39;t of asked me to change for their benefit.
This thread is not just for me, it& #39;s for all the people who have beautiful and unique names. This is how we feel, this is how YOU have made us feel and it& #39;s not okay. #itstimeyousaymyname
