This is me in Afghan in late 2011, about the same time that certain members of the SAS, and our Afghan partner forces were murdering civilians, for reasons known only to themselves, but likely in an attempt to terrorise the local population into submission. 1/3
Even in 2011 I knew there was a culture of cover-up in the ADF senior ranks, as I had reported a credible claim of torture by an Afghan prisoner (he had been bashed with an iron bar while manacled to the roof, and he had the scars to show me). 2/4
I was told by both the Brigadier General and the senior civilians (International Policy, IP) to 'forget I ever heard it'. It could 'damage our public image if such conduct was revealed'. Needless to say, I declined to follow the illegal order and reported it the ICRC in Uruzgan.
The ADF senior Command want me in gaol. They say i "have irreparably damaged Australia's National Security". I think they have trashed Australia's image by covering up war crimes; but I'm interested in your opinion. Thanks for your support.
