Palestinians in Latin America (Central and South America), might be a long thread. 👇🏻
Palestinians started immigrating to Latin America during the 19th century and early 20th century, mainly from Bethlehem, Beit Jala and less numbers from Beit Sahour and Jerusalem, to escape ottoman persecution and discrimination against them.
Their number is around 1 million.
Their are 3 groups: majority and oldest ones left because of the ottoman, people that left because 1948 and 1967 Israeli occupation, and few hundreds of Palestinian refugees Latin America welcomed after they found no home in the Arab world.
They integrated in the Latin American society and held high positions in politics, economics, sports, music, businesses, socially, and more.. I will mention only SOME of the names I know/remember..
Palestino club in chile, a professional football club based in the city of Santiago, Chile. The club was founded in 1920 by Palestinian immigrants and won the country’s championship several times.
In 2004 Antonio Saca, a Palestinian from Bethlehem, became the country’s president after he won over Shafic Handal, another Palestinian from Bethlehem.
The current president is Najib Abukele, another Palestinian from Beit Jala, but he’s a disgrace for his roots😂 (1 in a million)
Marina Elali, a famous singer in Brazil, and her origins are from Beit Jala in Palestine.
Schucry Kafie a Honduran businessman (origins from Bethlehem) and the founder of Lácteos de Honduras S.A. (Lacthosa) the country's largest dairy company, and Lufussa, the largest electricity supplier in Honduras.
Xavier Semaan, a Business man in Salvador, origins from Bethlehem.. he owns the biggest textile company in the country and the 2nd largest in Central America with 18,000 employees.
Juan Andreas Faccouse, from Bethlehem, a famous Peruvian television presenter known as Tio Johnny (uncle johnny) and was number 1 for kids tv shows in Peru and Ecuador.
Alberto Kassis, Chilean Palestinian business man from Beit Jala. He owns CIAL, one of the biggest food companies in Latin America and was honored by the Chilean president in 2014
Vanessa Kattan, originally from Beit Jala, won 2nd Runner-up in Miss World Ecuador 2015.
Guillermo Zarur was a Mexican television actor, originally from Bethlehem. His career lasted for more than 54 years and was chosen as the best actor in 2009.
Marcela Sabat and Francisco Chahuan are two Congress members in Chile, they are from Bethlehem and Beit Jala
Antonio Asfura, a famous singer and songwriter in Honduras, originally from Bethlehem.
William Handal, originally from Bethlehem, was the Salvadoran
Minister of Finance, airport and port manager of the country the deputy Prime Minister.
Mario Zablah, Mexican, originally from Bethlehem, founded ARZYZ aluminum company, and now exports to 101 countries worldwide.
Rosalinda Asfura (originally from Bethlehem) is a Honduran diplomat, the ambassador of the Republic of Honduras to the United Mexican States from 2007 to 2010. She is currently married to Mexican ex prime minister Marcelo Ebrard.
Jean-Paul Tarud, from Bethlehem, was the Chilean ambassador to UAE between 2009-2018.
Jorje Tarud, his father, was the chilean ambassador to Saudi Arabia, China and Australia.
Enrique Cury(Khoury) from Bethlehem, was the the Minister of the Supreme Court in Chile between 1998-2006.
Alejandro Hasbun (Bethlehem), Vice President of CONACEP, the organization responsible for all private schools in Chile, & the president of Miguel de Cervantes University.
Carlos Facussé (bethlehem) was President of Honduras from 1998 to 2002 and President of the Congress from 1994 to 1998.

Mario Canahuati, (bethlehem) former Honduran ambassador to the US, ex President of the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise and served as Foreign Minister.
Jorge Bendack, Bethlehem, minister of energy and petroleum in Colombia and President of Colombian Biofuels Federation.

Natalia Majluf (makhlouf) from beit jala, art historian. She served as head curator of the Peruvan museum Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), between 2002 and 2018.
Roberto Abugattas is a Peruvian high jumper (Originally Beit Jala) He competed in the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics.

Juan Jose Daboub, (Bethlehem)is the Founding Chief Executive Officer of the Global Adaptation Institute and former managing director of the World Bank (2006–2010)
Óscar Antonio Safie, (Jerusalem) founder of Group Megavisión, a Salvadoran broadcasting company that operates three television channels and more than twenty national radio stations.
Juan Carlos Chomali (Beit Sahour) is CEO, Country Head of Santander Bank Uruguay as well as Director in Insurance Zurich Santander, President of the Association of Private Banks of Uruguay and member of the Board of Directors of the Confederation of Business Chambers
Fernando Chomali (Beit Sahour)He is currently archbishop of Concepción in Chile and great chancellor of the Catholic University of the Holy Conception. He’s the administrator of the Diocese of Osorno after being appointed archbishop of La Serena René Osvaldo Rebolledo Salinas.
Anna Maria kafati, originally from Beit Jala, famous honduran tv presenter and the production manager in the national Honduran tv channel.

Anna Gracia Hasbun, Bethlehem, represented Salvador at the Reina de la Costa Maya beauty Pageant that took place in Belize.
Palestinian Chileans raising awareness and talking about the annexation plan and occupation of their homeland.
In chile it is known that every town has 3 p’s: a priest, a policeman and a Palestinian..

There are more and more important figures in all Latin American countries but these are enough😅..
