Alright #medtwitter #medstudenttwitter #medEd, virtual interviews INCOMING so lets review Chief tips to look your best on interview day. @InternalMed_Res @LukewebsterMd @photon_ick @DirkGainesMD @AnandJag1 @LizzyHastie @DocScribbles
1. Camera position: Ensure your đŸ“· is at eye level! Use a desktop or place your laptop on a box for a better angle. This helps create the perception of better 👀 contact with the interviewer and is more flattering for your 😀!
2.Step one, ✔! Now on to lighting 💡! As you can see, I look very washed out in the last photoâ˜č.Try to sit facing a window for natural light ☀, use a ring light, or place a lamp on either side of your computer! Get creative!
3. Background: Use a neutral background so that your interviewer is not distracted 👀. Make sure no family or đŸ¶đŸˆare visible in the back of your frame. If you aren’t able to sit near a wall, try a virtual background!
4. Cords: Last thing you want is for your computer to die💀 or wifi to fail in the middle of an interview. Always connect your power cord and try to connect to ethernet if possible!
5. Practice, practice, practice! Make sure to have a practice interview to ensure you are comfortable with this virtual format! Always look at the camera when responding to questions to promote eye contact with the interviewer.
6.Putting all together: Now that you have your station set up in a đŸ€« space, your camera at 👀 level, and your lighting, you are all set! This is how our UCSD interview station looks as an example. Play around with your setup and make it personal!
