This is sooo complicated. I think we need to try some type of hybrid educating, like maybe where 1/2 of kids attend M&Tu while the other 1/2 vid connects then switch W&Th, Fridays all remote connect? https://twitter.com/thomaskaine5/status/1283769660727529472
That'd help parents with daycare needs a little as well as help abused children stay connected to support outside home. Busses would be less full.

Instead of jr/sr kids switching classes, let teachers switch. Lunch in room. No contact gym time definitely needed. No playgrounds.
We have to keep education going somehow for our kids' future in this competitive world. And they need to have an in-person social life & not suffer isolation.

It we also have to mitigate risks as much as possible for all in schools also.
Dumbfounded all American public schools dont have solid plans and easily transitional backup plans in place by now. July 15 shoulda been deadline

We've had since March to get things lined out, EXPECTING there could be resurgence of virus/infection the latter half of 2020.
The fucked up thing about this is the mask debate. Some teachers will refuse and some kids will follow no-mask parents. There will be major issues in schools, to include bullying. If we cant all get on the same page, maybe we need to segregate mask & no-mask schools for a bit.
We cant just send kids back to school without having all this shit planned out in detail.

The way we sit right now with outbreaks all over, we're better off to delay start or stick w/ F/T remote or home school until we can fine tune and be wholly prepared for in-school learning.
A good vid https://twitter.com/donwinslow/status/1283806258361847808?s=19
I accept that many of us never really thought about a pandemic hitting our country. But it is the Federal govt that knows what viruses & risks to US are out there in the world. Where the FUCK was the contigency plan for schools in a pandemic? Not just iDJiT admin. 21st Century.
The more I think about it, the more I wanna spit nails. With the destruction of the nuclear family(or sgl parents keepin gma/gpa at home instead of a AL/nursing home) & with the ever increasing need for households to be supported on more than 1 income, we've been set up to fail.
I'm one of the lucky ones. My kid is grown. But I've been the minimum wage mom with an undependable co-parent & little outer support, and my kid inevitably getting sick each fall. I really fucking feel for these parents/families.

This is just fucked up! 😢😠
2020 and we dont even have broadband access for every house in America.

Just fucking great.

The US Dept of Ed needs to get on the ball NOW & enlist ATT or whatever conglomerate can get it done & provide EVERY home w/ children in America adequate stable broadband access.
We need a delayed start. I'm talking January. 2nd semester. The risk is too great. Let the rich kids get their head start if they want. It'll be like speeding up to a stop sign in the long-term.

America first? That means Families First. Our children FIRST.
One parent/one income households need to be allowed full public assistance until we get a decent workable plan in place.

We need guardian ad litums to volunteer their asses off. We need retirees to volunteer too.
Bus drivers can become delivery drivers.

We need tutors. Or to free up teachers from classroom to be tutors making weekly visits. And we need to provide them regular covid testing the same as POTUS&Co gets.
If Congress has an ounce of Decency in them and their Oath, they'll come together and get really damn good at budgeting, and halve ALL their salaries for one year to help offset costs.

No more fucking lobster for DoD, & the end-of-year spending sprees need to be banked in DoE.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm for centralizing/nationalized remote/distance learning for one year.

Let @laurawbush and @MichelleObama team up to Lead as a pair in teaching our K-6 elementary students. One room schoolhouse style via video conferencing.
Choose high school teachers or professors that can do the same for secondary.

Get ASL interpreters to translate for the two first ladies & secondary.

Free up our teachers to tutor. Bus them in Full PPE to visit each kid an hour a week minimum.

Special needs will need more.
It's been ages since my kid and me have been in school. I sure as hell dont have all the answers, but people, districts, education staff and parents alike need to get to brainstorming a workable solution in a quickness for us to even effectively roll out in January 4th 2021.
People, quit spinnin' our wheels bitching about the way it is and start creatively brainstorming solutions and offer them up under the #notmychild hashtag &/or maybe #AmericasChildren.

Dont worry about people thinking your idea is stupid. We need ideas & solutions.

The Federal Government & States FUCKED today's American youth & parents by not having a decent contigency plan in place for schooling during a pandemic.
I dont wanna hear a word that we dont have the 💵. FIND IT. Pull 10% across the board from EVERY Federal Department if need be.
Cafeteria workers can stay employed creating and delivering "meals on wheels".

Bus drivers can stay employed bussong cafteria workers on deliveries and teacher for tutoring.
Some 50.8 million kids need meal delivery and in person tutor an hour a week minimum. 3.2 million teachers.

Do we need more busdrivers and buses?

Can janitors stay employed stepping up as supplemental busdrivers? Can we repurpose some city buses that are out of service?
How to keep the kids social and active.

Busdrivers could stay really busy bussing 15-20 at a time to their designated school playgrounds for an hour a couple times a week.

Janitors could stay busy cleaning equipment after each session.

Counselors could stay busy supervising.
Any parents that have depended on school as their childcare while they work need to be provided ADEQUATE assistance so they can be at home to help home school and care for their kids. They should not have to lose any more than 10-15% of their income because Govt failed.
If their kids are older and they can split their time 4 hours at work and 4 hours at home helping educate, great. If their kids are younger and they need to be at home F/T, they need to be allowed to do so without being forced into financial failure or leaving kids unattended.

Kids absolutely need to be provided/lent school-issued computers at Govt expense and professionally tied into district/dept networks.

AND THESE NETWORKS NEED TO BE HIGHLY SECURED AND MONITORED TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AND PREVENT ANY UNSAVORY OR ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.
