this shit should be handled the same as other despicable ideas, such as nazi ideology - shut it down instantly. in the best case they will drain your time and energy in arguing, in the worst case they will sway impressionable people who don't clearly understand why this is wrong.

first, here's why they're wrong: animals do not understand and cannot clearly communicate consent and thus are incapable of granting or revoking it. sexual contact with an animal is abuse. that's it, end of story. so whatever they say, do not forget this.

but second, let's contradict their arguments anyway.

a) this is a common abuser justification in many fandoms. in reality the vast majority of furries are not zoophiles, and yet the fandom exists.

c) yes, there are zoos that do participate in community building within the furry fandom. but by their nature they are making it WORSE, not better. kick them out.

being an animal abuser is not equivalent to being, say, LGBTQ. zoos may be a minority group but they are not oppressed -- this abuse should not be tolerated.

in short this behavior cannot be tolerated and every furry space that boots out zoophiles is correct to do so. animal abuse is reprehensible and the people who advocate it are wasting your time and energy by regurgitating their horrible ideas.
