thread of some of my favourite chinese desserts/sweet snacks 🥮💞
tong sui / tim tang

➥ it's any sweet soup or custard normally served at the end of a meal in cantonese cuisine!! personally i like to have sago, tapioca and bean curd sheets in mine,, it can also be served hot or cold ☺️
red bean soup

➥ red bean soup is a type of tong sui which has a subtle sweetness and is ideal for rounding off a large meal!!
green bean soup

➥ another type of tong sui (because there's lots of variety) which is light and nutritious and can be served warm or cold 😌
papaya and snow fungus sweet soup

➥ this cold dessert, which can also have ginger infused, can bring quite a lot of health benefits.
jian dui / sesame ball

➥ a fried pastry covered in sesame seeds made from glutinous rice flour. it's hollow inside and can be filled by red bean paste, lotus bean paste or other varieties
tang yuan

➥ balls of glutinous rice flour and water that has been boiled and served in a hot broth or syrup, varying in size and can be filled or unfilled
tofu fa / dou fu fa

➥ a dessert made from very soft tofu eaten with a clear sweet syrup that can be infused with ginger or pandan.
dan tat / egg tart

➥ a pastry filled with egg custard, can also be referred to as 'po tat' (portugese tart)

basically my childhood 🤩
bolo bao / pineapple bun

➥ slightly sweet, soft bun topped with a golden crusty, crumbly crust that resembles a pineapple. although they don't actually contain any pineapples!!
nin gou / nian gao

➥ popularly eaten during chinese new year, nin gou is a sweet rice cake. although the name translates to 'new year cake' it can be eaten all year round!

this can easily be my favourite dessert though 🥺
sachima

➥ a snack made of fluffy strands of fried batter bound together with a stiff sugar syrup. it can also contain sesame seeds and raisins.
grass jelly

➥ a plant based, jelly like dessert that can be eaten with other toppings (such as fruit), with syrup or can be served in drinks
lo mai chi / mochi

➥ aren't really the same thing but my mum calls them the same so i do as well,, glutinous rice ball with different fillings such as red beans, peanuts and black sesame.

my favourite type of mochi is the ones worh mung bean filling 🥰
yue bing / yuht beng(?)

➥ mooncake: traditional chinese dessert typically eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. it has several different fillings such as lotus bean paste (which can contain salted duck egg yolk), red bean paste, nuts and beans 🥮
snow skin mooncakes

➥ a non-baked mooncake with a soft and chewy texture. i prefer these ones to the traditional ones but they both taste great so 🤷🏻‍♀️
mantou

➥ last but not least,, this one isn't really a dessert or snack but you could dip them in sweetened condensed milk,, soft, fluffy steamed bun 😗
