2. We had a great time last episode talking about topics such as premarital sex and whether or not it's biblical for Christians to drink or sell alcohol.

5. Eph 1:17-18 (NLT) I pray... asking God... to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you might grow in your knowledge of God... that your hearts will be flooded with light...

6. Here's our first question today: CAN A DIVORCED CHRISTIAN REMARRY?

My answer will explore both the permissibility of divorce and the propriety of remarriage post-divorce.

7. We're taking this approach because if the Bible does not endorse divorce among Believers (which is a question many Christians struggle with), then the propriety of remarriage would be a non sequitur.

8. Now, let me start by emphasizing that when discussing such matters as this, we should ALWAYS ensure that we do so from a place of compassion and empathy.
I believe nobody goes into a marriage planning to get a divorce, but life happens!

9. So, should a Christian ever even get a divorce?

For those who are adamantly opposed to Christians getting a divorce under any circumstance, their go-to scripture is Mal 2:16 "For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce..."

10. But a careful reading of the verse shows that while God said that He hates divorce, He did not outrightly forbid it.

The issue was posed to our Lord Jesus and this was His response...

11. He first established that God originally intended for marriage to be a lifelong and irrevocable commitment:

Mat 19:6 (AMP) So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate).

12. When the Pharisees pointed out that there was a legal precedent in the Mosaic Law supporting divorce, as long as it was properly documented, Jesus clarified that Moses allowed it ONLY because of the perversity of their hearts, but it was not God's intent...

13. Mat 19:8 (AMP) He said to them, Because of the hardness (stubbornness and perversity) of your hearts Moses permitted you to dismiss and repudiate and divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been so [ordained].

14. Jesus then gave His verdict on the matter:
Mat 19:9 "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."
