Anyone else relate to my experience? Was basically a moderate liberal centrist type in my 20s. Voted for New Labour. Saw Labour drift to the left after 2007. Switched to the Conservatives under Cameron. Used to subscribe to The Times and The Economist. Appalled by them now. 1/6👇
Voted Remain in 2016, not with any great enthusiasm, but because I bought into Cameron and Osborne's arguments on economics. Realised that was a load of confected froth after Leave won. Saw even once respectable Remain blue ticks go all out to denigrate & gridlock the country 2/6
Find myself aghast at the judgment of all manner of civic institutions I used to defend & value. Instinctively brought up to respect & value the police and rule of law, but am often appalled at modern police leaders & judges, and the warped leniency shown for serious crimes. 3/6
Spent years defending the 'free press' only to see broadcast media plurality and impartiality standards wither and die as Comcast's Sky, Channel 4 and BBC are allowed to behave like MSNBC, CNN, and NBC in terms of open, totally undisguised, agenda-driven news organisations. 4/6
Am told I'm deeply privileged despite only ever being 2-3 months salary away from the streets like the vast majority of people in this country. Am told I should pay more taxes and accept more state direction of my choices in life by Wet Tories who can't even deliver an app. 5/6
Just want a government that will re-establish the primacy of British law and revitalise our Union, cut our taxes, spend taxpayer funding shrewdly, and help educate our children for success by imparting real knowledge but also a work ethic and ethos of personal responsibility 6/6.
