the universal "we" fails often but feels like it is especially failing now, as state& #39;s politicians say "together, we can beat this virus" to present the idea of a unified front or unified triumph. It& #39;s all blatantly false/hollow. Too many disparate interests living in that "we"
some of the "we" doesn& #39;t believe the virus is real or dangerous, some of the "we" has the power to push for resources that will take care of folks/allow for them to stay home more effectively. the "together, we can..." absolves the powerful (as the universal "we" often does)
I can& #39;t stop thinking about that absurd governor& #39;s address yesterday (forgive me -- I know some of you are veterans of the bullshit, but it was the first one I& #39;d actually watched) & struggling to come to terms with "let& #39;s all love each other" as a pandemic strategy
can& #39;t "Live Laugh Love" your way out of a pandemic, or at least not this one
