I’m probably opening a can of worms here, but there’s definitely a perception w minority immigrants that white parents let kids get away w murder. But I’m wondering among white folks, who do u guys think is most strict? I hear Irish moms most often. Be nice, no hate intended.

and on this topic, i should note my own mother was not very strict. i had a wide latitude and it helped i was a goody-two-shoes and not a big rulebreaker. but i marveled as a middle schooler at some of the things my american friends, esp white kids, did. unthinkable w us!

like talking back to your parents? i had a respectful relationship w my mom. she treated me as a fully realized person with thoughts worth listening to. but it was not a democracy. she was mom, i was kid. i could make a respectful disagreement with some decrees but nothing crazy.

and i like i said, it wasn't some threat of spanking. almost never happened. but you try and disrespect this lady.

the worst punishment i ever got - and i totally deserved it - was in high school when i started slacking off and got bad grades, i got a tongue lashing and i simply lost TV except for on the weekend. just like boom, no TV. thats how i ended up listening to @realphilhendrie
