This week, @JoeBiden released a new climate plan, expanding his commitments. It's very exciting, building on ideas many campaigns proposed during the primary.
What’s the Democratic nominee pledging on climate change? A lot. THREAD on the plan!

The plan centers clean energy and sustainable infrastructure, building squarely on @JayInslee, @BernieSanders, @ewarren + @KamalaHarris' ideas during the primary.
It centers standards, investments and justice, targeting $2 trillion in government spending over 4 years.

On standards it targets:
1) 100% Clean Electricity and Energy Efficiency Standard by 2035 - VERY EXCITING!

2) A net-zero emissions standard for all new commercial buildings by 2030

3) Ramping up clean cars standards, particularly for buses

The plan's focus on energy efficiency is key. The more energy we can save, the less we need to expand our grid as we electrify transportation and buildings. There’s also a lot of jobs in efficiency that cannot be taken overseas.
It’s a solid approach! https://democracyjournal.org/magazine/56/cleaning-up-the-electricity-system/

Building on an idea that @JayInslee proposed via @DataProgress, Biden's plan includes a new Civilian Climate Corps!
Let's put a new, diverse generation of Americans—including women and POC—to work conserving public lands + cutting emissions. https://www.dataforprogress.org/blog/a-call-to-action-for-a-climate-conservation-corps

The plan also centers environmental justice, building on ideas that @KamalaHarris, @AOC, @JayInslee and others have developed over the past 18 months.
Biden targets 40% of climate investments towards disadvantaged communities.
This clearly builds on the landmark work of the @NYRenews coalition, which proposed and got that same number in last year's historic NY state climate law, the CLCPA. https://www.nyrenews.org/equity-memo

There’s a bunch more important EJ ideas in Biden's climate plan, including:
- elevate EJ work within the White House
- elevate EJ work at the DOJ to hold polluters accountable
- use data to map frontline climate communities + impacts

With a new goal of spending $2 trillion over 4 years, Biden has amped up his proposed spending in response to the economic crisis. It's closer to levels that @BernieSanders proposed.
This number is more than 10% of the annual federal budget. A big deal! https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/14/us/politics/biden-climate-plan.html

The @JoeBiden campaign's focus on green stimulus is not just the right approach for the economy and the climate. It's also popular, as my work with @ParrishB + @mmildenberger for @equitablegrowth has shown.

Overall, the Biden campaign is listening to environmental activists and understands both the urgency and the opportunity in the climate crisis. As @SierraClub has shown, we can create 90 million new jobs over the coming decades as we clean up our economy. https://www.sierraclub.org/trade/millions-good-jobs-plan-for-economic-renewal
In a choice between a climate denier, and someone pledging to spend one-eighth of the federal budget on climate action, I know who I would pick.
Excited to see what a @JoeBiden presidency will do to drive down emissions and create millions of new jobs! https://joebiden.com/clean-energy/
