A few reminders of what sex education should leave students with about herpes (yes, another thread):
You can still be sexual if one or more of your partners has herpes. The likelihood of transmission depends on biology, awareness of symptoms, medications, barriers, and communication.
With that said, you could use barriers, talk about safer sex, and still contract herpes, as it is spread through skin-to-skin contact.
Herpes can be transmitted when someone is not having a visible outbreak (aka asymptomatic shedding)
Herpes is currently not included on standard screening panels, so many folks do not know their herpes status.
Cold sores = herpes; you or your partner could receive herpes from oral sex.
Yes, you still need to disclose to your partners if you have oral herpes.
Herpes doesn’t define you, your worth, or your relationships.
There’s no “better” type of herpes.
