BIG NEWS THREAD! The Class action suit filed by the Owino Uhuru community and @phyllis_omido was successful!! They've been awarded 1.3 BILLION shillings! We told their story #plagueforprofit in 2015 as well as via @AfUncensored :

Here's the breakdown of those liable to pay up!
Ministry of Environment water and Natural Resources) – 10%
Ministry of Health – 10%
NEMA – 40%
EPZA -10%
Metal Refinery EPZ - 25%
Former Nyali MP Hezron Awiti’s Penguin Paper and Book Co. – 5%

They have been given 90 days to pay up. It has been a very long road to this day. Here's a timeline of their struggle:

So, for the second time this year - First on May 16th when Kabuga was arrested, and today, July 16th, the day that a huge victory was won for the people of Owino Uhuru, I can say that hope does spring eternal. VIVA watu wa Owino Uhuru na @phyllis_omido
