Never thought I would be on the receiving end of GBS sepsis. A frightening collapse of our new baby boy a few hours after a beautiful delivery. Horrific being on the other side of the fence. Thankfully recovery has started 😍😍 @IrelandSouthWID @IrishNeonatal @infantcentre
A few observations from the other side of the fence..restrictions on parents visiting are torture and should be immediately stopped. You feel helpless enough without the added trauma of not being able to support your partner and sit with your baby together
No mobile phones allowed in NICU.Are they really a medical risk? Not been able to take a short video or photo to share with young siblings/ grandparents adds to the pain. I appreciate hygiene, noise etc but come on. Limit use but is a blanket ban reasonable?
As COVID has shown us our nurses and midwives are amazing. Thank you to them all for their support and of course my colleagues @oriordanmairead
Having an entirely new medical team on call at 1am in a new hospital where none have worked before on NCHD changeover day watching an emergency unfold is an absolute car crash
Dads... get the hairy chests out and do skin to skin.. I never did it before but it’s fabulous. Even more so when they get sick. Ignore the “rug” comments 😂👍
No visitors allowed 100%.Dads are not visitors. They are fathers, next of kin, partners, supports. I met 4 dads in 2 days all of whom missed the birth of their child at CUMH.That is not COVID care,it is 1960s care.If mum is breastfeeding in SCN dads literally can’t see their child
All we hear about is the psychological trauma of COVID. Reuniting mothers with their partners for the birth of ones child is not a big ask and an obvious fix especially for those first time more vulnerable mums or those with poor outcomes
Thank you Twitter!! I can’t believe how upsetting Monday night has been. This was very therapeutic đŸ€›đŸ€›đŸ‘đŸ‘
