I’m sorry but to me the argument “but our kids are falling behind” just shows how beholden we are to metrics and testing and how little we’re concerned with children’s lives, happiness, and well-being.
Also, wealthy people surely did not care that kids in underfunded school districts were falling behind, not for many years. Now they care?
Also most of the reasons we’re trying to open schools might be contributing to students falling behind, like the fact that students need to go to school to GET MEALS or PROVIDE CHILDCARE; maybe if America took care of families and children, students could just *learn* at school
My mom was a teacher for thirty years and nothing depressed her more than the relentless modern focus on results instead of children.
