It's crazy the difference it makes when people are caring and gentle. https://twitter.com/champagneamzii/status/1282743508223307776
I see a lot of people romanticizing "being a baby". But it's not the age that inherently makes her calm and happy, it's how that baby is treated. She's is being cared for by someone who is taking all precautions to make her feel that way.
But of course we never have videos of abused babies/children so it's easy to have a huge bias about what childhood looks and feels like.
If (big IF) we took the same precautions with adults, they'd be more likely to look and feel just as appeased.
Have you ever thought about it ? How recording the daily life of abused babies/children is impossible because you'd have to ask their parents for permission first ? How it's one thing you just can't send a camera crew to for a fly-on-the-wall documentary ? https://twitter.com/ladyteruki/status/1283753878329135106
I think about that a lot. Whenever we see things about what it's like to be a child, abused children are de facto excluded because... what parent in their right mind would allow to show that ?
I discussed it a bit in the introduction of this article : http://www.ladyteruki.com/2019/01/04/hell-is-for-children/
(this thread as segued pretty wildly but bear with me)
And even if they did... then the mere presence of a third party to observe would entirely change things. A lot of abusers understand at least on some level the need for respectability. My parents behaved in front of other people (however rare it was for us to see other people) -
- and were never displaying their worst behaviors in front of others. Not that others would have cared or done anything, but you never know.
