Desi culture isn't just Indian culture, a much needed thread:
Disclaimer: The sole purpose of this thread is for people to grasp the concept of the vast diversity in desi culture and be educated on this matter.
Desi culture is often percieved as north-indian culture but its much more diverse than that so, to narrow it down to just Indian culture can offend people who have grown up being a part of it.
For you to refer to desi culture as Indian culture can hurt other desis that are not from India but have lived through these traditions for years very deeply. Moreover, refering to the key elements as just part of desi culture, especially north-indian, can seem ignorant bc ppl+
from other desi countries play significant roles in desi culture as well. It is an earnest request from a desi to understand the message this thread tried to convey and acknowledge our existence. Whatever is "Indian" culture is desi culture.
Thanks to @moonbhorta and @robindrotaegor for helping me with this thread 🥺❤
