SCYJ agrees:
- Children with ACE& #39;s are much more likely to become victims or perpetrators of violence
- Violence is the product of deep-rooted issues in society but it is not inevitable
- Gov policies have exacerbated many root causes of children becoming involved in violence

SCYJ agrees:
- Custody must only be used as a last resort for the most severe cases & for the shortest possible period of time
- Sentencing children to custody is not effective at rehabilitating & has been shown to increase reoffending

SCYJ agrees:
- We want the system reformed so the impact of childhood criminal records is reduced
- We want provision for wiping childhood offences from police computers if conditions are met
- Rehabilitation periods must be reduced

SCYJ agrees:
- BAME children are more likely to be placed in less welfare-based, more penal institutions
- Distinct & tightened legal restrictions would minimise the biases causing disproportionately negative outcomes BAME children

SCYJ agrees:
- We want distinct KCPO guidance for children
- Clarity is needed on the evidence base required for a KCPO
- Opportunities for diversion on a voluntary basis must be fully explored prior to KCPO being considered

SCYJ agrees:
- Untargeted stop & searches risk increasing the number of children in the CJS
- There is no evidence stop & search reduces levels of violent crime
- We want to see a commitment to directing resources away from stop & search, towards more effective interventions

SCYJ agrees:
- As schools manage tight budgets, pressures to provide support to children at risk of harm has increased. Class sizes increased, staff numbers fallen & special educational needs teachers, pastoral support, counsellors & detached youth workers have all been lost

Finally, thank you to @YouthViolenceUK for the incredible #TheFinalWord launch today! Let this be a pivotal point in amplifying the voices of all young people and showcasing their endless potential.
