This by @ThePlumLineGS on Trump’s exec under-reach rather than incompetence as a key facet of his authoritarianism is super important. This malign neglect is a baked in part of conservativism. 1/ https://twitter.com/theplumlinegs/status/1283478752366927876">https://twitter.com/theplumli...
It goes back at least to Hoover as @ThirdWayMattB and I argue in @usatodayopinion 2/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/06/28/trump-and-hoover-both-labeled-the-man-who-doesnt-care-column/3236951001/">https://www.usatoday.com/story/opi...
The @GOP sadly is so fundamentally in opposition to the safety net or basic govt services to Americans in need they accept suffering and death over action. 3/
They fear competent govt action bc it generates public support for competent govt, oversight, expertise, and services, which means support for Democrats. 4/
In today’s @GOP it also means govt would be part of the fight FOR equality and the assault against systemic racism. And the end of the Gingrich-McConnell-Trump fever dream. 5/
Believing your enemy is incompetent leads to underestimating him and complacency. And today’s @GOP is an enemy to public health, to our brothers and sisters of color and everyone who is vulnerable. They must be routed. /End
