I saw a lot of people say "it& #39;s 2020, how come he didn& #39;t know about this, how come he& #39;s not educated, he stands up against racism so he should& #39;ve known, etc.." so I would like to share my experience with ca as a non-American person.
First of all, I live in France so I have quite a lot of black people around me since this country has a lot of territory outside Europe because of colonialism
So.. I have very long straight hair and my black friends would always ask me if they could braid them. I didn& #39;t have a problem with it so I always let them. They would usually braid my hair in a bridal or fairy style so it was really cool actually (they were sooo talented)
But once they decided to make cornrows. Their whole family was there and they didn& #39;t mind, they were even quite excited about it? Anyways they did it and I had cornrows for like a week before I took them down. In this time nobody said anything about it
I couldn& #39;t have known that it was ca, and I still didn& #39;t know a few months ago, when I first came on Twitter... Even if I wanted to be educated about racism etc I wouldn& #39;t have even thought of looking up what culture appropriation is because I literally never heard of it
I would& #39;ve never thought that a hairstyle could be offensive so I never looked it up. You can& #39;t be educated on something you never heard of... When I first watched kokobop and saw kai& #39;s hair I was just there like "oh it doesn& #39;t suit him" but I would& #39;ve never thought more abt it.
I know that I did ca now, and I sincerely apologize for it. I am now educated about it and I can assure you that it will never happen again.
Now what I would like to talk about is that I just imagined.. If I was a celebrity and I knew a pic of me with cornrows would be released for the whole world to see just because I genuinely didn& #39;t know about it I would break down. First thing I did when I learnt about ca
Is to search for any pic of me in cornrows to delete it (I didn& #39;t find any btw, I guess I didn& #39;t take any because I looked ugly in it anyway
https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💀" title="Schädel" aria-label="Emoji: Schädel">) but it would seriously take a toll on me if anyone released it, especially after I& #39;ve been so vocal here and irl about racism...
And given the backlash Hongjoong is already receiving because of one picture, I don& #39;t wanna know how it& #39;ll be when the mv will be out. I can& #39;t even imagine how he must be feeling right now, please take that in consideration when tweeting about it...
We have to take in consideration that ca really isn& #39;t a something known outside of america and that if I, in France, never even heard about it, korean probably also didn& #39;t. We have no idea of what happens in America, I can assure you about that.
Hongjoong was probably educated, so please don& #39;t think that all he did was fake or not sincere. Culture appropriation is not something everyone knows about, even if they& #39;re against racism.
And saying that it happened before with other idols so the company should& #39;ve known, I don& #39;t think what happens on Twitter really reaches the companies... Not many idols have apologized and their choreographer even said that they genuinely had no idea about it, especially since
