the first paid work I ever got that was & #39;enough paid work to actually pay the rent& #39; came from Paul Laity at Guardian Review, circa 2009, so forgive me if am & #39;conflicted& #39; on this issue
I think a lot of fury at the Guardian comes from misunderstanding what it is. It& #39;s not a left-wing paper, or even a social democratic one, and never has been, it& #39;s a liberal paper that allows the left a voice within it. Ppl defending or attacking it for being what it isn& #39;t is odd
a lot of the most hateful things - the majority, I would imagine - that people get het up about on here - come from the Observer, which bafflingly the Guardian allows to share its website. This doesn& #39;t, however, include the regular and gross transphobia
(also, if the Guardian were to disappear tomorrow, one upshot is that I wouldn& #39;t have to see Left Twitter sharing with me the latest take by (insert Lunchtime O& #39;Booze Euston Manifesto signatory of your choice here), which would be nice)
but my main feeling is: don& #39;t expect the Guardian to be a left paper - give money to, buy, fund and share left media if that& #39;s what it is you want; this works several ways
