No the fuck it wasn't. The plot was god awful. Snoke, who had the potential to be one of the most interesting Star Wars villains, was killed off like a bitch and we never got his backstory until they jammed it into the next movie which was even worse. https://twitter.com/Sarma_Aalia/status/1283428898601041926
Rian Johnson wanted to subvert expectations for the sake of subverting expectations. He had no interest in just creating a good story. There was absolutely no world building. The spin-off films were MILES better than this garbage.
All of the build-up of The Force Awakens was killed with nothing but anti-climaxes. It was one of the most least-satisfying films I've ever seen.
I'm obviously being somewhat hyperbolic with this thread, if she enjoys it then I'm happy for her. I'm just an EU/Legends fangirl so the sequel trilogy and Nu-cannon has been mostly disappointing for me.
I absolutely LOATHE the lack of nuance and the "Republic good, empire bad" narrative. The Republic was almost as bad as the empire in a lot of ways but the Disney cannon does not showcase this. It's a rather liberal approach.
Admittedly I haven't done much reading into the new comics. From what I've seen there's some pretty cool shit. But the movies.... ugh.
