Rape dialogues used as humour in Tamil films is pivotal to why tamil men think it's ok to perform such sexually criminal acts on women without consent. To see someone who i idolized to allow such scenes in his films, leaves a poor taste.
I don't want to just single out Vijay on this, but this occurs in most of the tamil films our "big" stars perform in, and rewatching our classics at an age where we know what these dialogues stand for is disturbing.
This scene from Kuruvi is just a small example of the larger problem we don't discuss enough. I'm particularly talking about such scenes like this that occur in the late 90s to early 2010s which is where our current generation grew up and this is the sort of films we grew up with
I'm bitterly disappointed in our parents or guardians for allowing to even watch these films. They wouldn't allow us to watch "Boys" because it's a teenage film yet we were allowed to watch other films which were far more worse.
Watching all these insensitive, and basically horrible films. We don't acknowledge enough how much it's normalized that we basically embedded rape culture and sexual violence into our societies.
