CHARACTERIZATION: OSOMATSU

Important things to note when it comes to the way I write Oso:
1) Being obnoxious is generally a coping mechanism
2) Spiteful re: his own instincts
3) Very unorthodox problem solving
4) policy of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

So wrt part 1. He's got an abandonment complex, which is a frequent source of anxiety. Coping w/ anxiety normally goes down one of three routes, depending on the severity of the anxieties.

1) actively seek a distraction (usually by being obnoxious w/ his brothers))
2) hide away in a hidey hole
3) engage in self destructive behaviour

Osomatsu is very much someone who does Not want to think about what concerns him or makes him feel uncomfortable. he is perfectly happy being Happy. takes a very aggressive stance on 'conceal don't feel' and 'ignorance is bliss'

If I Don't Think About It I Can't Be Hurt By It

If his train of thought starts to wander its often like "nope don't want to think about that. Let's go bug choromatsu." Also explains why you see him with certain brothers the most. Very easy to fixate on choros anger, jyushis antics, repurpose his energy into coddling ichi

Vs say. Karas nonconfrontational nature.

Affection is also a double edged sword for him bc a) he craves that sort of physical affection but b) gentleness does not a good distraction make

So while he always Wants and Craves affection depending on his mindset he could starve himself of the attention

Anyway part 2) spiteful with his instincts.

If intuition says "do not go into the fire", niicham raises the metaphorical middle finger and jumps. Aka he's the king of 'curiosity killed the cat'

If he's pretty uncaring about something then this doesn't really imply but its why he's like such a risk taker. He says fuck logic and does what he wants because he Can

Which also leads to part 3. Unorthodox solutions.

Someone keeping a secret? We don't pressure them; we get them pass drunk and then they spill.

Get a job? Hell nah. Steal from his brothers.

Hes very much like a "take the most indirect route possible" but still gets the job done if he cares enough

4. Let sleeping dogs lie

He doesn't involve himself unless one of his brothers ask him for help or it gets to the point where its literally unmanageable and you're one stressor away from snapping

Eg if a brother is depress't it would be like

"Aww u ok?"
"Fine." In a snappy tone
"Haha if you say hi"

He might prod out of curiosity but he doesn't push for a solution. Prefers to let the others figure themselves out

Part of this is bc of his drive to find solutions for himself without involving others so he kind of projects that practice onto others

this thread is like a week old but one final point on how i write oso:

he doesn't like stress. he doesn't handle it well AT ALL, and he knows that. he doesn't like the feeling of losing control of himself/a situation, and thats why he can seem negligent or overly carefree.
