I’ve been so reluctant to talk about this but I feel led to. I was dehydrated and fainted at a very popular store a few months ago. Instead of helping me, the manager called the police.
Not an ambulance. The police. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. I was on the ground, vision blurred, couldn’t stand. And he called the freaking cops. I knew it was because I was Black.
I kept trying to tell him that I needed help and he said “I don’t care.” I was so scared of being arrested for being dehydrated that I tried to get up and just walk out. But I passed out again. One of the employees realized I needed assistance and called an ambulance.
The police didn’t come & I’m so grateful. I have a 1 year old baby and she was all I could think about. The paramedics got there and wanted to take me to the hospital. That’s how bad it was. But because I’m Black, my care was delayed and I was put in harm’s way.
As I left, the manager smirked at me and said “sorry bout that.” It was so humiliating and gross. I’m sharing bc this same company pretends to care about Black people but I know it’s cap. I witnessed it.
