I apologize to my followers in advance for being negative and undiplomatic but I am so, so very sick of the narrative that reduces intergovernmental relationships basically to a weenie war when one side “submits” or “chooses to challenge”. Please stop this. https://twitter.com/ProfAvenarius/status/1283395779185565697
Municipalities in Canada are literally a creature of the province. The province does what it wants, and that often means sitting on draft legislation for years until it “releases” it from review.
Elected officials at the muni level use their platforms for issues that matter to their constituents and hope to effect change. There is always a long list of priorities that a person on Twitter might not be following. Legal issues. Waste/Water, city act review, muni plan/regs...
Honestly, a comprehensive legislative review is sorry needed for issues that municipalities face in NL. But again beside the point—I can’t just go out and yell about 50 things at once and take up all the space in a room until I get them??
Ya’ll we are over here trying to mitigate the worst effects of the climate crisis, figure out how to deal with a massive economic problem, and try and push for social change in absolutely vital, life-saving areas. Don’t assume yelling=effective advocacy + planning for gods sake
