Look. We know it’s only July, but can we talk about the 2020 holiday season? Why, you ask? Why kill your summer vibes? Well, last month this unprecedented thing happened in books & we’re 100% positive it will happen again in a few months.

Buckle up. A thread.
Last month hundreds of thousands of Americans all hopped on the anti-racist book train. It was madness (for us & for publishers & for you)! You see, books aren’t always ready for a mass ramp up at a moments notice. If a book is a year or two old, they’re definitely not ready.
several of those books were doing well by maybe selling a handful a month? That’s the long tail of books. They aren’t selling in mass (usually) for years on end. Books are a gamble. No one knows which book will be a break out star. Publishers print what they think they’ll need.
At present, the number of printers has been cut dramatically in recent years. So books bottleneck. Some are printed overseas& that takes even more time. That’s why colorful kids books and cook books just take LONGER to reprint. They usually have to travel.
So fast forward to holidays 2020. There will certainly be a few hit books, but with the economy & Covid & the election...Who the F knows what to predict. So likely there will be some hit books that you will not be able to gift this year. UNLESS!
Unless you order your gifting books early. We will even give you some big lists (working on that as we speak). Cause we know it’s going to be chaos. And some will be angry. And that anger will be aimed at some sweet sweet booksellers just trying to do their job.
Prevent the angry mobs, book lovers! Support your indies by ordering early. It helps us figure out what you want, how many to order & so on. That helps publishers figure that s$&@ out too! It all connects. We deserve a sane end to 2020. Let’s work together to make it happen!
