My memories of the Salton Sea are much more recent, driving past it in 2017 a couple times to/from Joshua Tree. It’s not a huge stretch to imagine @nkjemisin’s Broken Earth set there. Certainly has an evil earth feel to it. 3/5

The contradiction of the Salton Sea is that it’s a human-made body of water, and but its slow death bring death to the people around it. Not just economically, but in terms of health impacts. Climate change is only making it worse. 4/5
