Hey, guess what you can't do. Complain about how small the indie games industry is and then shit on people for even proposing different ways to do things. Damn.
Indie designers give a ton of money to distribution sources, funding platforms, and most are working full time in unrelated jobs. If even joking about a different distribution method gets you attacking and smearing people, you're not supporting growth of the industry.
And Hey, if you don't like a distribution method, how about you don't use it for your stuff or don't buy it! A new way of thinking about content distribution could pave the way for new, AMAZING designers, especially ones with bills to pay.
Just because you don't like Nintendo or Blizzard doing something, doesn't mean you should eliminate it for indie devs.
Indie devs aren't massive corporations.
If Super Smash Bros Xtreme Next Edition had a Patreon to fund it's growth, you'd be against it, because it's DIFFERENT.
I know I've been talking about having fewer hot takes, but this isn't even hot. This is tepid. Don't discourage game development.
