We were ushered to the first conflict of the drama—ST was forced to leave his current school after experiencing another episode during a class. It's apparent Kang Tae was upset but he knelt in front of ST & smiled reassuringly. Did KT manage to convince ST with the facade?

Let's go forward to Episode 7, where it was revealed to us viewers that 'Jjampong' was actually Kang Tae's favorite, not, Sang Tae's +
Sang Tae knew Kang Tae was upset about him having to leave his current school and hadn't discounted his younger brother's feelings, to make up for it he asked they eat 'Jjampong,' his brother's favorite. He wanted to lighten his brother's mood.
On Episode 2, Kang Tae hesitantly mentioned Seungjin (their hometown) and the possibility of moving there, opposite to what Kang Tae had expected, Sang Tae answered, "Sure." almost casually. In this scene he mentioned 'Jjampong,' again. +
Sang Tae's mentioning of 'Jjampong' suggests that he's going back there for Kang Tae because Kang Tae 'wants' to. When ST said "the broth tastes amazing!" it was actually KT's exclamation about the food when they were kids he was recalling.
Was Sang Tae really unafraid? Unaffected about going back to their hometown? I'd say, It was quite the contrary. +
In the next scene after Kang Tae recognized his cowardice, Sang Tae was now the one to reassure him, "You're a coward because you're the younger brother, I'm the older brother, you can count on me." ST knew what the consequences of going back to their hometown holds... +
Sang Tae knew that once they go back to their hometown he's about to face the butterflies again in the very place where they first haunted him and still, he's willing to brave the butterflies for his younger brother and made certain to KT, "Trust me, you can count on me."
