It's Nonbinary Awareness Week so here are a few things that I wish more people knew about being nonbinary and also about being trans: (1/10)
Nonbinary people and trans people don't owe anyone any kind of gender presentation! You can be super masc and/or super femme and still be nonbinary and/or trans - regardless of your gender assigned at birth. (2/10)
Please don't refer to nonbinary people as NBs as NB traditionally stands for non-Black. (3/10)
When using the word enby, please check with the person you're referring to before you use it! The same thing goes for trans people in general when it comes to gendered words and compliments like queen, king, bro, girl, pretty, handsome etc. (4/10)
Nonbinary people and trans people can use any pronouns - including she/her, he/him, neopronouns, any pronouns, combinations of various different pronouns - and that doesn't make them any less trans and/or nonbinary! (5/10)
Some nonbinary people identify as trans, but some don't. Also, nonbinary men and nonbinary women exist - these are people who identify to some extent with manhood/womanhood, but who also identify as nonbinary at the same time. (6/10)
Please don't make assumptions about whether trans people want hormones or surgeries. To say that a trans and/or nonbinary person needs these things to be trans and/or nonbinary is gatekeeping and is known as transmedicalism (google it) (7/10)
Being trans and/or nonbinary does not have to be harrowing, painful, and difficult. For some people it is these things, but it can also be joyful and freeing. You do not need dysphoria to be trans and/or nonbinary! (8/10)
If you think about being or want to be a different gender, you can just be that gender. You don't need to change anything about yourself or your pronouns if you don't want to. Your gender is unique to you and there is no right or wrong way to be trans and/or nonbinary. (9/10)
Finally, to my gender non conforming siblings and my closeted siblings, I love you and my DMs are always open if you ever want to Genderpost ❤🧡💛💚💙 (10/10)
