I heave recently found out that the school my eldest attends is teaching “Julian is a Mermaid” in Year 2 (6-7 Year olds). I have many issues with this, a thread. 1.
Julian sees some mermaids and decides to play dress up. Sexualised dress up that involves a lot of pictures of him in his pants. 2
Nana sees him playing dress up so helps him accessories his drag. 3
Nana decides to take this child in sexualised drag to a pride march. Note the huge high heels of the man/woman on the right. 4
“Like you Honey” Because little boys who dress up are just like grown adults in drag. 5
Let’s remember some of the wonderful things Julian might see at the Pride parade. What a great idea to encourage children to attend. 6
After dressing up as an overly sexualised woman Julian becomes a girl. Hooray! 7
This book is recommended by Pride magazine and Ru Paul. I don’t know about you but I am not sure that a man in womanface who refers to actual women as “fishy” is the best person to be recommended books for 6 Year Olds. 8
My child is in Year 2 and Hell will freeze over before he is taught this book. Please check that it is not being taught at your child’s school.
* going to be in Year 2
