Oh, I got TIME, Jon. Let's do this. #Athletics https://twitter.com/JonPayn26836025/status/1283452283154567168
OK...it's common knowledge & taught in schools that Rickey should've won *four* MVP awards. He won in 1990, but should've won in 1981, 1985 & 1989. In 81, he finished 2nd to Rollie Fingers & in 85, he finished third behind Mattingly and Brett. So, we've got a closer & corner IF!
In 80, Rickey was inarguably the 2nd best player in AL (.303/.420/.399 100 SB), but finished TENTH in voting. We'll put Eddie Murray at DH, Reggie Jackson in RF. Same BS in 82. Rickey again finished tenth, but probably 3rd best player that year. Go w/underrated Dewey Evans in LF.
1983 is a goddam disgrace. Rickey was a top 5 talent and finished 24th in AL MVP voting?! We can fill out most of the rest of the team here: Lou Whitaker at 2B, Alan Trammell at SS, Pudge Fisk at C and Jack Morris is the SP.
We need a criminal investigation into the 1984 AL MVP balloting. Rickey should not have won or anything, but he wasn't named on ANY BALLOTS?!
And, teammate Dave Kingman (.321 OBP) finished 13th in voting?!
I need to lie down.

Okay...I'm back. And, goddammit, the SAME THING happened to Rickey in 1986. Top 5 or 6 player in AL, but no MVP votes. But, we get our CF in Kirby Puckett.
Already have a SP, but can't argue too much with Frank Viola finishing ahead of Rickey in 1988 MVP voting. I can/will argue with Jeff Reardon and Doug Jones finishing ahead of him tho.
And, so...here's the lineup of players who undeservedly finished ahead of Rickey Henderson in AL MVP balloting and/or outright stole the award from him:
1B Mattingly
2B Whitaker
SS Trammell
3B Brett
RF Jackson
CF Puckett
LF Evans
C Fisk
DH Murray
SP Morris
RP Fingers
