*Thread Time* More early down analysis, but extended to the entire CFP era. First up, ACC. In the CFP era Clemson slightly leads the way in pass frequency, with (no surprise) the now former option team GT down in last. 11/14 teams were better off passing vs. running #CFBStats
Next up: SEC. Ole Miss leads the way in pass frequency, with Auburn down in last. Look at Mississippi State on both graphs, then remember air raid Mike Leach is taking over! In the SEC 9/14 teams were better off passing than running.
Lets head to B1G country now. Purdue was dedicated to passing, but wasn't very good at it. Ohio State is zooming off the graph and dominating the conference. In B1G ground and pound tradition, 7/14 teams were better off running than passing.
Big 12 Up Next. Texas Tech leads in pass frequency. Can't imagine any of their QBs benefited from that🤑 Oklahoma is just #better at both but in all only 1 team was better running than passing on early downs.
Last but not least the Pac 12. Not very shocking whose in 1st. Oregon is blowing away the rest of the conference in early down EPA. Only 3 teams were better suited running than passing.
Main takeaway: Most teams should pass more on early downs. The P5 average early down pass frequency is only 38%.
