Chris Grayling achieves something remarkable...he fails to become the new chair of the powerful Intelligence and Security Committee...

....Even though parachuted in by a Conservative govt on a Conservative majority system.

Julian Lewis appointed new chairman instead.

It seems Grayling failed to get the intelligence chair because he did not realise there was a secret move against him..

...one would suspect this would be the sort of thing a would be chair of an intelligence committee would be expected to have thought of.....
3/

Perhaps it’s for the best.

A nominated chair of an intelligence & security committee who doesn’t have the intelligence to look securely after something handed him on a plate is just too funny.
4/

Reports that Grayling "didn't see it coming" until he was told there were actually two candidates at 5pm.

You’d need a heart of stone not to laugh at this.
5/

Julian Lewis has had the Conservative party whip removed.

Blimey - Dominic Cummings doesn’t waste time does he?
6/

Not clear yet if there’s a way back for Julian Lewis. One suspects it depends on how long Dominic Cummings lasts.
7/

1st decision of new intelligence & security committee...

...is to meet again tomorrow & discuss publishing the long-suppressed report into Russian interference in UK politics next week.
8/

BBC now confirming this.

I spose the classic Dominic Cummings move would be to get Boris Johnson to send Parliament into recess to stop the publication now he no longer has a patsy as chairman.

I don’t think that will happen but If it does..remember where you heard it first!

He might just do it...

A reminder that parliament breaks soon for summer. So Grayling only had to delay for a week and the Russian report would have been delayed till the autumn - at the earliest.

Now thanks to Lewis it could be out by next week.

That’s why Dominc Cummings is so mad.
