After Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project in May last, year, Diamer Basha is the second mega multi-purpose Dam which has been started in a span of one year. This has never happened in the history of Pakistan.

•A hefty amount of Rs. 78.5 billion is being spent on CBMs for social development in the area including setting-up of Cadet College at Chillas, which is almost complete.

•Diamer Basha Dam Project will stimulate economic activities in the far-flung and backward areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, providing as many as 16550 job opportunities to the locals and Pakistani engineers

•Dam is likely to be completed in 2028-29 to usher in an era of socio-economic development in the country besides bringing progress and prosperity for Gilgit-Baltistan

•As many as 1.23 million acres of additional land to be brought under plough.

•The project to mitigate floods. The 2010 floods in Pakistan inflicted a cumulative financial loss of US$ 38 billion.

•Adding electricity of 18,100 GWh (million units) through a clean, renewable source to the National Grid annually.

•Additional electricity of 2,520 GWh (million units) at existing hydel power stations including Tarbela, Ghazi Barotha, Jinnah & Chashma

•Reservoir with live storage of 6.4 MAF would augment the irrigation releases from Tarbela
