Most people seemed to agree with me. So here I’ll talk about another actor, not a failure but a superstar. One actor who warms the hearts of movie critics and sets the box office on fire, every-time his movie releases.

He is Aamir Khan, one of the most mediocre Bollywood actors https://twitter.com/theatulmishra/status/1283279318307631104
Perfectionist.

Legend.

Phenomenal.

These are some of the adjectives commonly used to describe Aamir Khan. But is he really a legend, a phenomenal actor? Well, far from it. Is he a clever actor? Not just clever, he is the cleverest actor in Bollywood.
Aamir Khan has a set formula. Keep waiting till you get a winner script. Become the editor of the script, make yourself the focal point of the movie. Then ghost direct it to make it perfect. Then choose a comfortable release date to ensure maximum visibility and boom. 300+ Cr in.
He has perfected the perfectionist act so perfectly that it’s almost perfect. Almost I said, because there is no such thing as perfect. He has delivered some of the worst movies in a very mediocre industry. But I will talk about it later. For now let us talk about other actors.
Do you remember MatrukiBijlikaMandola? Vishal Bharadwaj’s failed attempt at political satire
Anushka was terrible, there was Aamir’s Bhanja and a Pankaj Kapur.

It was a terrible movie. Badly directed with giant plot holes. But Kapur makes it worth your time. That’s what actors do
KayKay Menon in Shaurya is so believable as a strict brigadier in Samar Khan’s shaurya that the whole secular propaganda in the movie gets wasted. Menon the antagonist completely owns the movie and you root for what was supposed to be a villain. That’s acting.
Manoj Bajpai makes a brief appearance in an extremely stupid love sob-saga Veer Zara, makes a giant origami of Shahrukh’s stardom and quietly exists. That’s acting.
Similarly Sanjai Mishra, Atul Kulkarni, Saurabh Shukla, Vijay Raaj have all had their fair share of bad movies but they never allowed bad scripts to make their acting look bad. This is the area Aamir doesn’t score highly.

Give Aamir a bad script and he will show his real class.
Take Mela for instance. It’s a terrible movie, Aamir is so loud and so irritating that he makes it unbearable.

Mann was praised by critics and was a hit. Aamir takes the playboy act way too literally in that movie. Another unwatchable flick.
Fanaa - Aamir is irritating as a road side Romeo (which was supposed to be charming) and unconvincing as a “bhatka hua naujwaan”. A dull movie but a hit.

I won’t even talk about movies like Daulat ki Jung, Love Love Love and well Tum Mere ho (It was funny though)
Then comes Dhoom 3. He sleepwalks through a film which was supposed to be a fast paced movie. He took a calculated risk here as Dhoom is a successful franchise. He failed.

Then came the mother of all trashy movies - Thugs of Hindostan. Aamir the mediocre actor was exposed again.
Aamir’s PK was high on Propaganda and less on acting. Govinda does the Bhojpuri act really bad and Aamir did the Bhojpuri act a thousand times worse than him. And PK is considered an iconic movie by liberal intelligentsia.
I’ll talk about the politics in Aamir Khan’s movie some other day.
