When General Shali was suspended, Major General Petrus Kagadhinwa Nambundunga acted as the Chief of Defence in 2009, he went into exile in 1975, where he served as Chief Instructor.
Major Gen Nambundunga was subsequently replaced when Lieutenant General Epaphras Denga Ndaitwa was appointed Chief of Defence in 2011, he joined PLAN in 1974 where he went on to receive military training in these countries: Russia, Yugoslavia, India, Nigeria, Zambia and Tanzania.
He was replaced by Lt Gen. John Sinvula Mutwa who joined PLANin 1974, he went on to receive military training in Tanzania and Yugoslavia, he served as Regional Staff Officer for Admin on the Eastern Front and as Regional Chief of Reconnaissance at the Eastern and Northern Fronts.
