also before i forget, in Latin America “gringo” is not synonymous with looking like Ivanka Trump. at least not always. mostly, a “gringo” is either: a. a foreigner to the country (in brazil I believe it’s used this way) or b. someone born or mostly raised in the united states
so when they call some of you “gringos”, in the context of their culture, i’m sorry but they’re not wrong
anyway my point is no one si erasing your ethnic background it just so happens in Latin America, yes, you’re considered gringo
oh i should’ve also specificied this applies to South America. unsure how Central America and Mexico operates since you all are in closer proximity and might have more distinction because of that proximity
also, an additive, THIS tweet thread is *not* in reference to the discourse that went on with the argentinian fancam kids of twitter. I did write my thoughts on that thread in an earlier thread than this one in Spanish. so if you feel this is about that whole issue — it’s not
if you search my @ along with the word gringo you’ll see I’ve discussed this a lot of my twitter. as a venezuelan immigrant the crossover of Latin America and latigringo culture is very interesting to me
case in point lmao perhaps my language wasn’t as eloquent as it is today but I’ve always had the same thought. so, like I said, not inspired by the Argentine discourse. I don’t defend them or their actions or their racist retorts.
sksksksks not me in 2014 writing out “unwritten Latino rule” like it’s a neds declassified journal entry!! clearly in 2014 I still thought latinidad was real and tangible. but you live and your learn ! that shit is fake bby
