I was in Brooklyn on June 2 and watched as NYPD officers repeatedly struck a protester who was already on the ground. Then a commanding officer stepped on his neck.

The NYPD says officers used restraint at the protests. Here's what 64 videos show: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/07/14/nyregion/nypd-george-floyd-protests.html
Several videos of NYPD violence were widely shared at the time, and we wondered if there were more. A group of us spent the last month searching social media, contacting protesters & journalists, collecting, verifying and watching hundreds of clips @andylocal @BlackiLi @larrybuch
While I was filming that video above, directly behind me an officer pushed a protester so hard that she fell backward on the pavement. Then he shoved someone on a bicycle. Then he picked up and body-slammed a third person into the street.
In instance after instance, we found videos where NYPD officers are seen using force on people who do not appear to be resisting arrest or posing an immediate threat to anyone
Officers charged into peaceful crowds and pushed people to the ground
Other times they appeared to lash out at random
Many of the videos show violence led by officers in white shirts, signaling a rank of lieutenant or higher. In Manhattan on June 2, one commander shoved a protester and another pulled her down by the hair.
