With everything, there has to be balance. Yesterday I posted about NHS smear tests and trans people. After listening to both trans men and women I have discovered that the NHS aren't providing for some of them an essential thing, the chance to register the correct sex AND pronoun
If they are registered as male the system will refer to them as such. Therefore "Mr" could be called out in the waiting room which - as we can all imagine to some degree - would be horribly uncomfortable. The NHS need only add a couple of fields to their system which...
probably already records much meaningless information on gender so why not something meaningful? If we have smear invitations sent out to trans women and trans men aren't being invited for important examinations then something needs fixing.
Whilst I still stand firm on many issues around this I won't be a party to needlessly demonising trans people. The TRA's are my issue, not people just trying to get by. This is a small accommodation to make because registering the incorrect sex could be so very dangerous.
