haikyuu is nearing its end so here’s an appreciation thread re: furudate’s way of drawing body postures is incredible (or little details that deserve to be recognized)
first off, sports manga means you should be able to portray minimal movements through drawings, which is not only tedious but also a challenging thing to do. you need techniques and a clear understanding of body parts plus their positioning at a certain angle
here are a few examples to illustrate the points mentioned:
a lean could be easily overlooked but they made it to a point wherein the movement was pronounced and obvious

take a look at this: context is kenma actually setting to the left but appeared to be luring hinata to move at the opposite direction (right, thus his body language)
“the best blockers in high school only need one second” then hirugami shifts his weight towards hinata as narrated by ukai. normally, this information would have remained blotted out if not for his commentary but in this case, the angle of hirugami’s leg positioning gives it away
shiratorizawa match and inarizaki match respectively: tendou was able to use his guess block on kageyama because of the setter’s form, see the difference when kageyama learns of this and manages to increase his unpredictability during inarizaki (though suna blocks them...)
this panel looks quite comprehendable already: the S arrow indicating their next motion while both eyes are fixated on the vball. again, incredible small body lean’s and light shading as if it’s the wind passing by on them (suga-right, kageyama-left)
last example is a set from oikawa during brazil arc: this gives a very subtle bent to the right and ends up being a successful point (the body posture is almost unnoticeable which means it was an extremely fluid set)
that’s a wrap & i hope you enjoyed reading the thread!! this was fun to make cuz i’m keen to minor details & furudate is amazing in drawing them... moreover, this is an extension of evidence that haikyuu is a stellar work & will remain as one of the best in sports manga history.
