Anyone can be a critic. All you have to do is say that's good or that's bad and why. To be an artist, you have to ask yourself, "How would I fix it?"

A great point made by Crispin Freeman. If you want to be a voice actor, you have to listen for what directors like and apply it.
But while doing this, you also have to apply something different to your reads, still within the parameters of what's being asked that you'd think they weren't hearing a million times before. Casting goes through so many auditions a day. That's Roger Craig Smith's advice.
Doing both together is very hard. It takes a ton of training to get it right. That's why these two are always booking. But if you can master these abilities (Listening, replicating, altering, and applying), you're well on your way to being a talent.
