⚡️ Interesting product + design choices observed in the current EdTech products in India that seem to contradict the perception of education among its consumers (students & learners).

A mini thread –
Formal education across the country (the world?) is a very well defined 🏫 institutionalized structure.

As a student, you are given a pre-designed curriculum with the scope, timeline and tests defined from day 1.

⚡️ Student starts in a system that's all ready to go.
The education system takes the burden of designing & structuring off of the student – the consumer, so much so that the student even receives a meticulously planned out daily schedule for the hours they spend in school.

💡 [insight] All the student needs to really do is show up.
What does this do to students?

💡 [Insight] They start to expect this year after year, and trust the system to figure everything out for them.

They expect to be handheld from the moment they show up to the moment they graduate.
The present-day ethos for building 📱 digital products is exactly the opposite: Put the 👩‍💻 user in control and let them 'design' their experience.

This approach seems to fall flat when applied as is to EdTech experiences.
EdTech products offer vast amount of content (📹 recorded and live) without a guided experience – no onboarding + handholding that students associate with & expect from education.

Empty Library Problem – they know what they're looking for is in there, they just cannot find it.
I look forward to seeing 2 things done well:

⭐️ A guided welcome experience to set a student up for success

⭐️ A touchpoints & comms framework to keep up the pace & dedication (across the dipping motivation troughs)

Basically, can the student just show up?

We'll see 🙂
