💊Tips for new pre-regs (from one who’s just been there!) - a thread. There’s been lots of great threads around this already but I wanted to give a few more general / practical tips for those about to embark on this exciting journey!
💤Get your sleep routine in check now! It can be a shock to go from studying/Netflixing all night to working all day & having to actually sleep at night. Start by aiming to go to sleep & wake up at about the same time each day.
Sometimes, the difference between a good & bad day is the amount of sleep you got the night before!
🥪Want to save ~£1000 this year? Bring your lunch to work with you! Also saves you time queuing, saves you from the (mainly) beige hospital food / Boots meal deals. Save another ~£600 by bringing in coffee. Use your savings for a fancy holiday when its all over! 🏝️
👬If you are fortunate enough to have other pre-regs working with you, make friends! They will be the only people who truly understand what you’re going through&will walk with you every step of the way.If you’re the only pre-reg - connect w/others on Twitter!Peer support is crucial
👏And remember: comparison is the thief of joy. Don’t compare yourselves to other pre-regs & don’t compete. We all have different strengths and weaknesses & our profession needs us to ALL be great. So encourage, champion & lift each other up to help us all be the best we can be!
😎Book your holidays!Try to make a rough plan at the beginning of the year of when you think you will need breaks / time to revise & book them.Your line manager will appreciate your organised approach (I didn’t do this - sorry!) & it will help you to know when your next break is.
As the old pre-reg / pharmacist saying goes: its not about knowing everything - its about knowing WHERE to look / WHO to ask! (you all know this already but it wouldn't be a pre-reg advice thread without adding it in there!)
❤️Don’t forget why you’re doing this: its easy to get caught up in evidences, salaries, organizational politics and personal goals but ultimately remember to keep patients at the heart of all you do and you will make a great pharmacist 😊
🙌Thank you for reading this far - best wishes to you all this year! It really is a brilliant year and a great way to kick-start your career. Remember you are never alone, the pharmacy community is wonderful - please do get in touch if you need anything.
